What if your kids could skate year round in your own backyard? For Sale: 24′ x 40′ synthetic ice hockey rink. The good stuff! 68 sheets of 4’x4’x1/2″ synthetic ice + 20 extra 2-3’x4’x1/2″ pieces. 30 underlayment sheets of 4’x8’x3/8. The rink consists of three components – the Synthetic Ice that is skated on, Structure (posts, boards, and netting) that contains pucks, and the Entry Pad for taking on/off skates. Each “sheet” of Synthetic Ice is 4’x4′ in size, 1/2 thick, and weighs 29 lbs. The sheets are solid material throughout and can be used on either side. The sheets connect together via dovetails. 2 sides have male dovetails and two sides have female dovetails. There are 68 sheets of 4’x4′. 60 are used in creating the 24′ x 40′ rink, 4 are used for the Entry Pad, and there are 4 extra. There is also 20 2-3’x4′ sheets that could be used to extend the rink or for a “path” to the rink. You can arrange the 4’x4′ sheets to create a wide variety of rink sizes. The sheets rest on “underlayment” that is designed to allow the sheets to expand/contract with temperature without damaging the sheets. Black panels in picture on right. Each piece of underlayment is 4’x8′, is 3/8 thick, and weighs 65 lbs. There are 30 sheets of underlayment. Both were manufactured by Global Synthetic Ice, the leader in the industry. The sheets are the Heavy Duty version, made for outdoor all-year use. The sheets and underlayment are 5 years old. The sheets have slight wear on the side currently being used. The structure is grounded by seventeen (17) 4’x4’x12′ posts that are sunk 2′ into the ground with concrete. Note: There would only by 4’x4’x10′ if reused. Green squares in picture on right. Each “hockey board” is consists of two (2) 2’x’4’x8′ lumber and four (4) 2’x4’x2′ pieces to create structure. A 2’x8’x3/8 board is then attached to the inside. There is one 4′ hockey board section that is removable for summer that can be optionally used to for winter and a water filled rink. The hockey boards are attached to the 4×4 posts 2 off the synthetic ice. A support structure was created at the top of the 4x4s around the extrior to support attachment of nets. Commercial grade netting (the type used in indoor baseball facilities) wraps the outside of the structure from the hockey boards (at 2′ level) to the top of the 4x4s (at 12′ level) to prevent pucks from leaving the rink. There are sixteen (16) 18″x8’x3/8″ boards painted blue to be used as kickboards for the inside bottom of the hockey boards to prevent pucks from leaving the rink, while also allowing for drainage. There are sixteen (16) 18-24″x8’x3/8″ boards that can optionally be used in the winter to contain the inside of the rink to turn it into a water filled ice skating rink. All boards are built/connected via screws – NOT nails. Four (4) sheets of synthetic ice to create an 8’x8′ pad for taking skates on/off before entering the rink.
